I am a graduate from Armijo High School where I took many vocational business classes on campus. Armijo had amazing vocational skills classes, career education, and built relationships with the local businesses to help students like myself, who weren’t on a pathway to college, obtain job skills and get the careers we needed to be productive citizens. My junior year, I was recruited by a mortgage company for an entry level job. While working in the business district, I was able to attend and graduate from Sacramento State with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies.
During college, I started my family. To supplement my income, I decided stay home with my child and opened a licensed family day care. My business background gave me the confidence to learn how to do my own bookkeeping and payroll. My business plan included continuing education in early childhood development and working with local agencies to provide child care for families who needed subsidized care.
Vacaville wasn’t always my home. After my second child was born, we decided to change school districts and commuted to the Vacaville USD. Our family was attracted to Vacaville’s great extracurricular programs for families and abundant opportunities for all children to engage in these activities. Children are miracles with unique learning needs. As a mom, I had many situations where our family had to find an alternative educational pathway when the public school system wasn’t a fit for our children. In Vacaville, my children experienced, private school, independent study through district transfers, a charter school, and local community college while attending a charter school. My experience finding pathways to educational success for my children will benefit this board and the citizens I will represent.
I have had many opportunities to serve our youth in Vacaville. I was a girl scout troop leader, 4H leader, supported the local FFA program, and spent many years working with local youth theater creating costumes, painting theater sets, and helping with summer workshops. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the community of Vacaville and I look forward to serving the students and families as your Trustee in Area 7.
